WB Police Constable Syllabus / Selection Process |
The posts of Constable / Lady Constable in the West Bengal Police shall be filled upon the basis of qualifying the Preliminary Written Test which will act as screening examination followed by the Physical Measurement Test (PMT), Physical Efficiency Test (PET), Final Written Examination and Interview |
Preliminary Written Test (Full Marks – 100) |
- Applicants provisionally considered eligible will have to appear in an MCQ based preliminary written test which is qualifying in nature.
- There would be 100 objective type questions having multiple choice (four choices) of answers carrying 01 (one) mark each.
- There will be NEGATIVE marking of 0.25 Marks.
- The duration of this test will be 1(one) hour.
- Question paper will be set in two languages (Bengali &Nepali).
- Questions of the Preliminary Written Test shall be from the following subjects :
- General Awareness and General Knowledge : 50 Marks
- Elementary Mathematics (Madhyamik standard) : 30 Marks
- Reasoning : 20 Marks

Final Written Exam : 85 Marks |
- All the candidates who qualify in the Physical Measurement Test (PMT) & Physical Efficiency Test (PET) will be called to appear in the Final Written Examination.
- The Final Written Examination will have 85 Multiple Choice (Four choices) Objective Type Questions (MCQs) carrying 01 (one) mark each.
- The duration of the examination will be 1 (One) hour.
- Question paper will be set in two languages (Bengali & Nepali) except questions on English language.
- Question of the Final Written Examination shall be from the following subjects:
- General Awareness and General Knowledge – 25Marks
- English – 25Marks
- Elementary Mathematics (Madhyamik standard) – 20 Marks
- Reasoning and Logical Analysis – 15Marks

- A limited number of candidates will be called for Interview in accordance with merit. In the Interview, the general awareness and suitability of the candidate for public service will be tested.

The posts of Sub-Inspector / Lady Sub-Inspector (UB) and Sub-Inspector (AB) in the West Bengal Police shall be filled up on basis of qualifying the Preliminary Examination which will act as screening examination followed by the Physical Measurement Test (PMT), Physical Efficiency Test (PET), Final Combined Competitive Examination and Personality Test. |
Preliminary Examination : (Full Marks – 200) |
- Candidates provisionally considered as eligible will be called for a Preliminary Examination to be held in General Studies, Logical & analytical reasoning and Arithmetic with full marks of 200.
- 100 marks in General Studies having 50 questions, 50 marks in Logical & Analytical reasoning having 25 questions and 50 marks in Arithmetic having 25 questions.
- The duration of the examination being 90 minutes.
- The preliminary examination will be an OMR based MCQ type written examination.
- The question paper will be set in two languages (English and Bengali).
- There will be NEGATIVE marking of 0.25 Marks

Final Combined Competitive Examination : (Marks – 200) |
- Competitive Examination will be set in three languages (English, Bengali and Nepali).
- The Final Combined Competitive Examination will consist of three papers of conventional type of questions, namely
- Paper-I : General Studies and Arithmetic for 100 marks (50 marks for General Studies, and 25 marks for Logical & Analytical reasoning and 25 marks for Arithmetic) of 2 hours duration.
- Paper-II: English of 50 marks of 1 hour duration.
- Paper-III: Bengali / Hindi / Urdu / Nepali of 50 marks of 1 hour duration.

Personality Test: (Full Marks – 30) |
- A limited number of the candidates selected merit-wise on the results of Final Combined Competitive Examination will be called on to appear at the Personality Test.
- Candidates’ ability to speak in Bengali will be tested in the Personality Test.
- The minimum pass mark for the personality test will be 08 (eight).
