Note: Western Railway Sports Quota Recruitment The number of vacancies is provisional and may change. A sportsperson with Level 5/4 norms who applies against Level 3/2 will be considered only for Level 3/2. Unfilled Level 5/4 vacancies in a discipline will be downgraded and filled at Level 3/2 in the same discipline.

  • Level 5/4: Grade Pay 2800/2400, with corresponding pay band as per 7th Pay Commission
  • Level 3/2: Grade Pay 2000/1900, with corresponding pay band as per 7th Pay Commission
  • Level 1: Grade Pay 1800, with corresponding pay band as per 7th Pay Commission
  • Stage 1 – Selection Trial: All eligible candidates are called for a Selection Trial. Candidates are assessed on game skill, physical fitness, and coach’s observations (out of 40 marks). Only candidates securing 25 or more out of 40 marks are declared FIT and assessed further by the Recruitment Committee.
  • Stage 2 – Recruitment Committee Assessment: Candidates declared FIT are further assessed on recognized sports achievements (50 marks), game skill/physical fitness/coach’s observations (40 marks), and educational qualification (10 marks), totaling 100 marks.
  • Stage 3 – Document Verification: Original documents (date of birth, educational qualification, sports achievement) must be produced on the day of trial for verification.

Minimum Qualifying Marks: Level 5/4 – 70 marks; Level 3/2 – 65 marks; Level 1 – 60 marks

Selection Basis: Offer of appointment is purely on merit. If two or more sportspersons score the same marks, preference is given to the younger candidate.

  • At least 3rd position in USIC (World Railways) Championship
  • At least 3rd position in World University Games
  • At least 3rd position in Senior/Youth/Junior National Championships
  • At least 3rd position in National Games (Indian Olympic Association)
  • At least 3rd position in All India Inter University Championship
  • 1st position in Federation Cup Championships (Senior)

Sportspersons must meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Represented in Commonwealth Championship/Asian Championship/South Asian Federation Games/USIC Championship/World University Games
  • At least 3rd position in Federation Cup Championships (Senior)
  • Represented a State/equivalent unit (except Marathon and Cross Country) with at least 8th position in Senior National Championships
  • Athletics: Medal-winning performance in the National Inter State Senior Athletics Championship may be considered for Level 3/2 and below; Gold medal in Open National Championship (Senior), Inter State Athletics Championship (Senior), or Asian Championship (Senior) may be considered for Level 5/4 and below.
  • Ball Badminton: Achievements in BBFI-affiliated events after 17-12-2025 till the date of notification will be considered.
  • Body Building: IBBF-affiliated event achievements after 31-12-2021 will not be considered; Association of Indian Universities and recognized International Federation certificates remain permissible.
  • Boxing: “Youth” category achievements on or after 25-09-2016 in International Championships are considered in place of “Junior” category.
  • Cricket (Men & Women), Level 3/2: Quarter-finalist in Senior/U-23/U-19 All India Inter State Group Championships (except Plate group), OR participation in Senior/U-23/U-19 All India Inter-Zonal Championship, OR participation in Senior/U-23/U-19 Challenger Trophy.
  • Handball (Men & Women): Achievements in events organized by Handball Association of India (or affiliates) on or after 05-09-2023 will not be considered; Association of Indian Universities and International Federation certificates remain permissible.
  • Hockey (Men), Level 3/2: Participation in International Tournaments (4+ nations, Senior or Junior) or semi-finalist in Senior National Championships may also be considered. Hockey (Women), Level 3/2: At least 2nd position in International Tournaments of 4+ nations may also be considered.
  • Volleyball (Women): Achievements in events conducted by Volleyball Federation of India after 02-01-2017 will not be considered; Association of Indian Universities and International Federation certificates remain permissible.
  • Powerlifting (Men & Women): Achievements in IPF-affiliated events after 03-10-2017 will not be considered; Association of Indian Universities and International Federation certificates remain permissible.
  • Weightlifting (Men & Women): New bodyweight categories effective 01-06-2025 will be applied.
  • Wrestling: Certificates for events conducted by WFI or affiliates after 10-03-2025 till the date of notification shall be considered.

  • Log on to the portal and fill in your personal details and bio-data carefully.
  • Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar Card number (or 28-digit Aadhaar Enrolment ID if the card is not yet received).
  • Fill in your educational qualification and sports achievement details, mentioning the specific position/event/discipline.
  • Upload the required scanned photograph (3.5cm x 3.5cm, JPG/JPEG, 100 DPI, 20-70 KB) without cap or sunglasses.
  • Upload the scanned signature (3.5cm x 2.5cm, JPG/JPEG, 100 DPI, 20-30 KB), not in block/capital or disjoined letters.
  • Pay the applicable application fee online through the integrated payment gateway.

Important: A separate application with separate fee is required for each discipline and for each pay level applied to.   • Scanned copy of minimum academic qualification mark sheet/certificate (per applicable level)
  • Certificate proving recognized sports achievement held between 01-04-2024 and the date of notification
  • Certificate for proof of date of birth (SSC certificate or equivalent mark sheet)
  • Caste certificate for SC/ST/OBC/EWS candidates, where applicable
  • OBC declaration (Annexure-E), where applicable
  • Minority Community Declaration (Annexure-A), where applicable
  • Income certificate for EBC fee exemption (Annexure-B), where applicable
  • Aadhaar Card or Aadhaar Enrolment slip (original, at the time of trial)
  • Name, father’s name, and date of birth must exactly match across educational and sports certificates; any name change must be supported by a Gazette Notification or equivalent legal document, predating the online application.
  • Candidates must keep their mobile number and e-mail ID active throughout the recruitment process; all official communication via SMS/e-mail/website is deemed read.
  • Original documents (date of birth, educational qualification, sports achievement) must be produced on the day of trial; certificates in languages other than English/Hindi require an attested translation.
  • Selected candidates may be posted anywhere on Western Railway and are liable for transfer to another Railway/establishment as per exigencies of service.
  • Selected male candidates finally appointed are liable for active service in the Railway Engineers Unit of the Territorial Army.
  • Selected candidates must submit a Service Bond of 5 years at the time of appointment.
  • Appointment is subject to passing the requisite Medical Fitness Test, and final verification of educational/community certificates and antecedents.
  • Candidates already employed in a PSU/Government Organization must produce a No Objection Certificate at the time of trial.
