The selection process for UPESSC Assistant Professor posts consists of three stages:

  • Stage 1 – Written Examination: 120 objective-type (multiple-choice) questions – 30 questions on General Knowledge and 90 questions on the relevant subject. Duration: 2 hours. Each correct answer carries 3 marks; 1 mark is deducted for a wrong answer or multiple answers marked for a single question (negative marking). Total marks: 360.
  • Stage 2 – Interview: Candidates shortlisted based on written examination marks are called for interview. Interview carries 40 marks. Candidates are shortlisted for interview based on written examination marks; being called for interview or merely appearing in/passing the written exam does not by itself entitle a candidate to final selection.
  • Stage 3 – Merit List Preparation: Final merit list is prepared based on written examination marks (360) and interview marks (40). In case of a tie in merit, precedence is given first to higher written exam marks, then interview marks, then the highest percentage in the essential qualification/PhD-JRF-NET combination as specified, and finally to the older candidate (higher age). College allotment/preference for appointment is decided by the Director of Higher Education, Uttar Pradesh, Prayagraj.

Interview Requirements: Candidates must follow all instructions issued by the Commission. During the interview process, candidates may be required to submit required documents and certificates as mentioned by UPESSC. PwD candidates are entitled to scribe facility and 20 minutes extra time per hour; the scribe must be arranged by the candidate and registered with the Commission at least one week before the written exam.
